Fireflies.ai is one of the longest-running AI meeting assistants, founded in 2016 by Krish Ramineni and Sam Udotong, who met at the University of Pennsylvania and later at MIT. The product joins video calls across Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Webex to record, transcribe, summarize, search, and analyze conversations, with integrations into Slack, CRMs, and project management tools.

Fireflies raised a $19 million Series A led by Khosla Ventures in January 2022 and has not raised external capital since. According to the company, Fireflies has been profitable since 2023 while posting triple-digit annual growth. In late 2025 the company announced it had reached a $1 billion valuation and a partnership with Perplexity to bring real-time web search into meeting workflows, joining the small group of AI unicorns that achieved that status without late-stage venture rounds.

The platform now serves more than 20 million users and reports usage in roughly 75% of Fortune 500 companies. Beyond core transcription and summarization, it offers conversation intelligence features such as topic tracking, sentiment analysis, keyword alerts, and AskFred, an AI assistant for querying past meetings. AI Credits gate higher-tier generative features such as smart search and custom summary templates.

Fireflies competes with Otter.ai, Gong, Chorus, Fathom, and the meeting-summary features built into Zoom AI Companion and Microsoft Copilot. Its differentiation rests on platform breadth, deep integrations, and a relatively mature self-serve pricing model that scales from individuals to enterprise rollouts.
