What Unbabel does
Unbabel is a Lisbon-based language AI company founded in 2013 by Vasco Pedro, Joao Graca and co-founders. Its LangOps platform combines machine translation with a human-in-the-loop quality layer to deliver enterprise-grade multilingual customer support and content. The company also builds Widn.AI, an AI-only translation product powered by its TowerLLM, and maintains the widely used open-source COMET metric for evaluating translation quality.
Quality-first language operations
Unbabel targets enterprises that need trusted, quality-assured translation at scale, integrating with helpdesk and CRM tools like Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom and Freshdesk. Its Quality Intelligence and MT Score capabilities let teams measure and trust automated output rather than relying on raw machine translation.
Acquisition by TransPerfect
In August 2025, Unbabel was acquired by TransPerfect and now operates as a division, with its TowerLLM and COMET technology feeding into TransPerfect's GlobalLink. Before the deal, Unbabel had raised roughly USD 91M, including a USD 60M Series C in 2019 led by Point72 Ventures.
