Tandem Health is a European healthcare AI company building an AI-native operating system for clinical workflows, with its ambient medical scribe as the initial wedge. Founded in 2023 in Stockholm by Lukas Saari, Oliver Astrand, and Oscar Boldt-Christmas, the company set out to reduce the documentation burden that consumes clinicians' time and contributes to burnout, while positioning the scribe as the entry point to a broader platform that automates administrative work across the care encounter.
The core product is an ambient AI scribe that listens to doctor-patient conversations in real time, transcribes them, and automatically generates accurate, compliant clinical notes that are ready before the patient leaves the room. Unlike scribes bolted onto US-centric EHRs, Tandem is built with European healthcare systems, languages, and compliance requirements in mind, which is central to its expansion strategy across the continent.
Tandem's standout achievement is scale and distribution in a public health system. Through a partnership with Accurx, more than 200,000 NHS professionals have access to Tandem's AI scribe, which the company describes as one of the largest healthcare AI rollouts globally. Reaching that footprint inside the UK's National Health Service is a meaningful validation in a market where procurement, data governance, and clinical safety standards are demanding.
The company raised a $50 million Series A in 2025 led by Kinnevik, with participation from Northzone, Amino Collective, and Visionaries Club, bringing total funding to roughly $59.5 million. The round funds the build-out of its broader clinical workflow operating system and continued expansion across European health systems, building on an earlier round backed by Northzone.
For European clinicians and health systems, Tandem offers a documentation tool already proven at NHS scale, with an ambition to expand from notes into a wider suite of clinical workflow automation, subject to the integration and governance realities of public and private healthcare across multiple countries.
