Knowunity is a fast-growing edtech platform that pairs a peer-created study-materials community with a personalized AI tutor. Founded in 2020 by four 17-year-olds still in school, it has grown into a learning platform with over 20 million users across 15 countries.
What differentiates Knowunity's AI from generic chatbots is its grounding: the tutor draws on more than 3 million peer-created study materials, localized across markets and fine-tuned to national curricula. This lets it give curriculum-accurate, tailored recommendations and audio explainers grounded in real-world examples rather than generic answers.
The platform is fueled by a community of more than 380,000 student creators who actively contribute content, driving organic growth and keeping materials relevant to what students are actually studying.
In June 2025 Knowunity raised a €27M Series B led by XAnge, with participation from Portfolion, Isomer Capital, Project A, Redalpine and Educapital, plus angels including Verena Pausder and Booking.com founder Arthur Kosten. The round brought total funding to about €45M, and the company is using it to expand into the U.S. and Asia toward a goal of reaching 1 billion students.
