LOVO was founded in November 2019 in Berkeley, California by Charlie Choi and Tom Lee, growing out of UC Berkeley's SkyDeck ecosystem. It evolved from a synthetic speech startup into a content creation platform with more than 2 million users.
Product
Genny, LOVO's flagship workspace, pairs text-to-speech — 500+ voices across 100 languages, including its directable Pro V2 voices with emotional control — with a video editor, auto-subtitle generator, AI writer and AI art generation, so creators can produce voiced videos end to end. Voice cloning lets users build custom voices, and a developer API deploys speech in a few lines of code with documentation at docs.genny.lovo.ai. A 14-day pro trial requires no credit card.
Funding
LOVO raised a $4.5M pre-Series A in August 2021 led by Korean entertainment giant Kakao Entertainment, with Kakao Investment, LG CNS and SkyDeck Fund participating, later extended by $2M for roughly $6.5M total. The Kakao connection reflects LOVO's strong positioning in entertainment and creator voiceover markets spanning the US and Korea.
