BoldVoice was founded in 2021 by Anada Lakra and Eduard Asylbekov to tackle a problem that affects more than a billion non-native English speakers: clarity and confidence when speaking. Traditional accent reduction relied on expensive one-on-one coaching that few could access. BoldVoice set out to deliver comparable results through an app powered by custom speech AI, making personalized pronunciation coaching available at scale.
The core of the product is a proprietary speech recognition and analysis system that evaluates a user's speech at the phoneme level, the smallest units of sound. When a user records a phrase, BoldVoice pinpoints exactly which sounds deviate from a target pronunciation and gives instant, specific feedback rather than vague scores. This is paired with structured video lessons taught by professional Hollywood dialect coaches, blending AI precision with human pedagogy.
Users follow a curriculum of short daily exercises, track progress over time, and work on the specific sounds that most affect their intelligibility. Because the feedback is immediate and granular, learners can practice independently and improve faster than with periodic human sessions alone.
BoldVoice has scaled to more than five million downloads, serving users in over 150 countries, and reports crossing $10 million in annual recurring revenue with a remarkably small team — a sign of strong capital efficiency. In January 2026 the company announced a $21 million Series A led by Matrix, with participation from Flybridge, Xfund, Corazon Capital, Alumni Ventures, Umami Capital, and Y Combinator. This followed a $2.5 million seed round in 2023.
The company's thesis is that AI-first speech coaching can give every non-native speaker a personal voice coach in their pocket, helping them advance professionally and communicate with confidence, while continuing to improve its proprietary speech models.
