Anam was founded in London in 2024 by Caoimhe Murphy and Ben Carr, who met at AI video unicorn Synthesia. Where most avatar tools render videos asynchronously, Anam focuses on live conversation: photorealistic digital humans that respond in about 180 milliseconds, listen, interrupt naturally and hold eye contact.

Product

Anam's flagship CARA-3 model powers real-time personas that speak 70+ languages with native voices. Builders can deploy via a no-code lab or drop avatars into products using JavaScript and Python SDKs, with tool calling, knowledge bases, and integrations for LiveKit and Pipecat. The platform is HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 certified, and over 8,000 builders use it for use cases from customer support to language tutoring — including staff training personas for L'Oréal.

Funding

Anam raised a £1.75M pre-seed led by Concept Ventures in 2024, followed by a $9M seed in July 2025 led by Redpoint Ventures with SV Angel, plus angels including ElevenLabs CEO Mati Staniszewski — bringing total funding to about $11.3M.
