SpAItial emerged from stealth in May 2025, founded by Matthias Niessner, a TU Munich professor, Synthesia co-founder, and prominent AI 3D researcher. The founding team includes Luke Rogers (ex-McKinsey, Cazoo), Ricardo Martin-Brualla (ex-Google Project Starline), and David Novotny (ex-Meta 3D asset generation lead).
The company is building spatial foundation models capable of generating full, coherent 3D environments and worlds from text prompts or single images, going beyond isolated 3D objects toward interactive, navigable scenes. Early demos showed photorealistic 3D worlds generated from a single image.
SpAItial raised a $13M seed round led by Earlybird Venture Capital, with Speedinvest and notable angels including Black Forest Labs CEO Robin Rombach and Synthesia CEO Victor Riparbelli. The round was unusually large for a European seed, reflecting the founder's research reputation.
Applications span immersive entertainment and gaming, robotics, and digital twinning. The funding is being used to expand the team and compute and to advance the company's 3D world-generation models, positioning SpAItial at the frontier of generative 3D.
