Polaron is a London-based AI startup spun out of Imperial College London after seven years of research at the intersection of machine learning and materials science. Its platform acts as an intelligence layer for materials R&D, automating microstructure segmentation, 3D reconstruction from microscopy images, and generative design optimization. Polaron's tools help engineers in automotive, energy and manufacturing predict how a material's internal structure drives performance, and have already delivered more than 10% energy-density improvements in EV battery work. By replacing slow, manual microscopy workflows with AI, Polaron accelerates the design-test-iterate loop for batteries, solar, fuel cells and other engineered materials.
