Deepull is a Barcelona-based medical diagnostics company tackling one of the deadliest and most time-sensitive challenges in medicine: the rapid detection of bloodstream infections and sepsis. Sepsis kills millions of people each year, and survival depends heavily on how quickly the causative pathogen can be identified and the right treatment started. Traditional blood cultures can take a day or more to return results, forcing clinicians to rely on broad-spectrum antibiotics in the meantime.
The company's flagship system, UllCORE, is designed to detect pathogens directly from whole blood, bypassing the slow culture step entirely. The UllCORE BSI test extracts total microbial DNA from an eight-milliliter sample of whole blood and is engineered to identify roughly ninety-five percent of sepsis-causing pathogens, returning fifty-two reportable results. By delivering pathogen identification far faster than conventional methods, the platform aims to help clinicians make targeted treatment decisions much earlier, improving outcomes and supporting antibiotic stewardship. Advanced computational analysis underpins the system's ability to extract and interpret signal from complex blood samples.
Deepull's technology has earned significant regulatory recognition, including FDA Breakthrough Device Designation granted in December 2024, which is reserved for technologies that offer meaningful advantages over existing options for serious conditions. This designation supports an accelerated path toward regulatory approval and clinical adoption.
In April 2025 Deepull closed an oversubscribed 50 million euro Series C financing, co-led by Columbus Venture Partners, Panakes Partners, and Merieux Equity Partners, with strong participation from existing investors including Asabys Partners, Innvierte-CDTI, We Venture Capital, UI Investissement, Axis-ICO, Aliath Bioventures, and Kurma Partners. The proceeds are being used to finalize clinical validation and expedite the regulatory approval process for the UllCORE diagnostic system. By compressing the time to pathogen identification, Deepull aims to fundamentally change how bloodstream infections are diagnosed and treated.
