The Path, previously known as Mental, is a subscription AI mental health platform co-founded by Dr. Anson Whitmer (a founding Calm data-science and AI leader with a PhD in psychology and neuroscience), Calm engineering founder Tyler Sheaffer, and entrepreneur Tony Robbins, with clinical oversight from Dr. Dean Ornish. Unlike chatbots optimized for engagement, The Path is engineered for outcomes: its specially trained AI challenges cognitive distortions, remembers a user's patterns and goals across sessions, and proactively checks in before stressful events, with crisis escalation to human support. Users choose among 11 AI therapist personalities with adjustable directness, drawing on CBT, ACT, DBT, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing plus Robbins' frameworks. The model scored 95 on the Vera-MH mental health safety benchmark, far above typical consumer bots. The Path has processed over 3.5 million messages across roughly 50,000 users. In May 2026 it raised a $14.3M seed round led by Prime Movers Lab, with Designer Fund and notable angels participating.
