What is The Browser Company?
The Browser Company of New York is the startup behind Arc and Dia, two of the most talked-about reinventions of the web browser. Founded in 2019 by Josh Miller and Hursh Agrawal, the company first built Arc, a design-forward browser with a cult following, before pivoting in 2025 to Dia — an AI-first browser where a chat interface sits alongside every tab. Dia can answer questions using the context of your open tabs, summarize long pages, draft emails in your writing style, and pull together information across Google Workspace, Slack, and Notion.
Why it matters
Dia represents a bet that AI chat, not the URL bar, becomes the primary interface to the web. Features like Morning Brief, context-aware search across connected apps, and automatic meeting prep aim to make the browser an active assistant rather than a passive window. Arc was placed in maintenance mode as the company concentrated on Dia.
Funding and acquisition
The Browser Company raised roughly $128M from investors including Pace Capital, Salesforce Ventures, and Atlassian Ventures, reaching a $550M valuation in 2024. In September 2025, Atlassian agreed to acquire the company for $610M in cash, with Dia continuing as an independent product focused on reinventing the browser for knowledge work.
