SPREAD was founded in 2017 in Berlin, Germany, by Robert Gobel and Philipp Noll, who serve as co-CEOs. The company targets one of the hardest data problems in industry: companies that develop and operate complex physical products, like vehicles, aircraft, defense systems and industrial machinery, generate vast amounts of engineering data that is scattered across incompatible systems, documents and formats. As a result, teams struggle to understand how thousands of components, requirements and design decisions interrelate.
SPREAD's Engineering Intelligence platform integrates and contextualizes this product-related data across the entire lifecycle, from design and production through operation and service. By connecting both structured and unstructured data sources, it builds 'product twins' that map the dependencies, trade-offs and performance factors of a product. Engineering and operations teams can then trace how a change in one place ripples through the rest of the system, dramatically reducing the time spent hunting for information and the risk of costly mistakes.
This is increasingly strategic as Europe pushes for industrial and AI sovereignty in sectors like defense and aerospace, where SPREAD provides an AI-native foundation that respects engineering data standards and security requirements. The company has also built a close relationship with Salesforce, expanding its reach into industrial enterprises.
SPREAD raised a 14.6 million euro Series A in 2023 and followed in April 2026 with a 25 million euro (30 million dollar) Series B backed by new investors including DTCP Growth, IQT, OTB Ventures, Salesforce and Thesiger Capital, alongside existing backers HV Capital and NAP. The funding supports expansion across Europe and the US and deeper presence in aerospace, defense and heavy machinery. SPREAD is a compelling example of European deep-tech AI applied to the most demanding engineering domains.
