Sana Labs is a Stockholm-founded AI company that builds an AI-powered learning and knowledge platform for organisations. Its products combine a modern LMS, an enterprise knowledge base, and an AI assistant into a single system, enabling companies to deliver personalised learning recommendations, generate course content automatically, and surface relevant knowledge at the moment of need. Pre-acquisition customers included Kry, Epidemic Sound, and EQT.
The company was founded in 2016 by CEO Joel Hellermark and co-founder Anna Nordell Westling. Sana raised approximately $73M in venture funding through a Series B before its acquisition, and built a strong reputation in Europe for combining AI research with enterprise-grade learning workflows. Its two main product lines became Sana Learn, the learning experience layer, and Sana Agents, an AI assistant layer for knowledge work.
In September 2025, Workday announced a definitive agreement to acquire Sana for approximately $1.1B. The deal closed later that year. At its Workday Rising 2025 conference, Workday CEO Carl Eschenbach described the acquisition as transformational, positioning Sana's AI-powered search, agents, and learning as the foundation for a new Workday experience that combines knowledge, data, action, and learning as a unified front door for work.
Post-acquisition, Sana operates inside Workday, where its technology is being integrated with Workday's HR, finance, and planning data to power proactive, personalised, and intelligent employee experiences. The Sana Learn and Sana Agents products continue to be referenced by Workday and remain in use across hundreds of organisations and more than a million users worldwide, while the long-term roadmap is now defined by Workday's product strategy.
For enterprise buyers evaluating Sana today, the practical reality is that it is no longer a standalone independent vendor. Procurement, contracting, and roadmap conversations now sit within Workday, and the platform is increasingly positioned as part of the broader Workday AI experience rather than as a horizontal AI learning platform.
