primitive is building the communication layer for autonomous agents. As AI systems move from one off chat sessions to long running, multi step processes that interact with humans, services, and other agents, the existing stack of email, webhooks, and SMS starts to creak. primitive provides the primitives, hence the name, that let an agent reliably send, receive, route, and react to messages across channels without each developer reinventing inbox infrastructure from scratch.

The companys first public product is MyMX, a developer focused inbound email service that catches every message sent to any domain or alias and delivers it directly to a webhook. For agent builders that means giving each task or session its own email address, receiving structured callbacks when humans reply, and stitching email into agent flows the same way Twilio made SMS a first class API. Future products are expected to extend the same model to chat, voice, and agent to agent protocols.

Founded in 2026 by Ethan Byrd, who previously founded Actual AI and worked across engineering teams at Microsoft, AWS, Facebook, and Google, primitive is based in San Francisco and went through Y Combinator P26. The team of three is hiring aggressively for founding infrastructure and product engineers.
