Infinigence AI is a Shanghai-based artificial intelligence infrastructure company founded in May 2023 by Wang Yu, a professor in Tsinghua University's electronic engineering department, together with former students who serve as its CEO and chief scientist. The company addresses one of China's most pressing AI bottlenecks: access to scarce, fragmented, and heterogeneous computing hardware. Its core platform pools many different types of accelerators into a single usable resource so that AI developers can train and serve models without being constrained by any one chip supply.
The company's Infini-AI platform, launched in April 2024, acts as heterogeneous computing middleware, abstracting over diverse silicon to deliver large-scale AI training and inference capacity. By making mismatched chips work together efficiently, Infinigence helps customers maximize the utility of available domestic and international hardware, a critical capability given export controls and supply constraints in the Chinese market. The company frames its goal as building a 'token factory,' reshaping the economics of generating AI tokens at scale.
Infinigence's customer roster underscores its importance to the ecosystem: leading Chinese model developers including Zhipu AI, Moonshot, and Shengshu AI have used its heterogeneous compute. This positions Infinigence as connective tissue beneath some of the country's most prominent foundation-model efforts, monetizing efficient compute orchestration rather than competing directly on models.
The company has raised substantial capital. In September 2024 it secured nearly 500 million yuan (about $70.2 million) in a Series A led by the Social Security Fund Zhongguancun fund, Qiming Venture Partners, and Hongtai Aplus, with strategic investors including Lenovo Capital and Xiaomi. Subsequent rounds, including a roughly $103 million raise and a later 500 million yuan round in 2025, pushed cumulative funding past $300 million as Infinigence expanded its heterogeneous computing and agentic infrastructure offerings.
