Freepik is a Spanish creative-content company founded in 2010 in Málaga by Joaquín Cuenca Abela, Alejandro Sánchez Blanes and Pablo Blanes. It began as a search engine for free illustrations and grew into one of the world's largest stock resource marketplaces before pivoting hard into generative AI. Today Freepik acts as an 'orchestrator' that unifies leading third-party models (for image, video and upscaling) alongside its own tools such as Pikaso and the open-source F Lite image model, serving more than 100 million monthly users. It ranks among the most-visited generative-AI web products globally. ## Funding Freepik was bootstrapped for its first decade. In May 2020, private-equity firm EQT (EQT Mid Market Europe) acquired a majority stake (about 53%) at a reported valuation of roughly €250 million, and Atwater Capital took a minority stake in October 2020. The company has since made acquisitions including Magnific (May 2024), Videvo, Iconfinder and Original Mockups.
