CopilotKit, legally Tawkit, Inc., builds developer infrastructure for embedding AI agents into existing software products. Rather than bolting a chatbot onto an app, CopilotKit lets agents read application state, render interactive generative UI, and take in-app actions, giving end users an agentic interface inside the product they already use.

The project centers on an open-source frontend stack with React and Angular SDKs, threads and conversation persistence, and customizable chat components. CopilotKit also stewards AG-UI, an open protocol for standardizing communication between AI agents and application frontends, which has drawn support from large infrastructure providers and popular agent frameworks.

The company was co-founded in 2023 by brothers Atai Barkai (CEO) and Uli Barkai, with roots in the Techstars Seattle accelerator. CopilotKit says more than half of the Fortune 500 use its tooling, primarily via the open-source library, with a subset paying for its Enterprise Intelligence platform.

In May 2026 CopilotKit announced a $27M raise, comprising a $20M Series A and a previously unannounced $7M seed, led by Glilot Capital, NFX and SignalFire. The funding supports expansion of the AG-UI standard and the enterprise product.

CopilotKit integrates first-party with LangChain/LangGraph, CrewAI, Pydantic AI, LlamaIndex, the Microsoft Agent Framework and multiple LLM providers, positioning itself as a neutral frontend layer across the agent ecosystem.
