Bittensor is a decentralized blockchain network that functions as an open marketplace for machine intelligence. Stakers effectively swap TAO for a subnet's Alpha token, and subnet funding is determined by market demand rather than governance votes. As of mid-2026, the network supports 128 active subnets. The Opentensor Foundation, which stewards the protocol, has approximately 38 employees and raised $8M in funding.
