What Aira Does
Aira (aira.io) is a visual interpreting service for people who are blind or have low vision. Through the Aira Explorer app, users start a live video call with a professionally trained, sighted visual interpreter who sees what the user's camera sees and describes it in real time. Interpreters help with navigating unfamiliar places, reading signs, mail, and screens, identifying products, using kiosks and printers, and countless other tasks that are difficult without sight. Aira also offers an ASL interpreting product for Deaf and hard-of-hearing users. The service is available on demand 24/7/365 with no advance reservation needed.
Business Model and Access
Aira operates a hybrid consumer and enterprise model. Individuals can subscribe directly, while hundreds of organizations, businesses, airports, universities, and government agencies become Access Partners so that Aira is free to use at their locations or for their employees, students, and customers. Partners include major retailers, transit hubs, and workplaces using Aira as a digital accessibility accommodation. Founded in 2015 in La Jolla, California, Aira blends trained human interpreters with technology to deliver reliable, instant assistance.
