XPANCEO is a Dubai-based deep-tech company developing what it calls the world's first multifunctional smart contact lens, integrating augmented-reality vision, continuous health monitoring, night vision and optical zoom into a single device thinner than a human hair. Co-founded by physicist Valentyn S. Volkov and entrepreneur Roman Axelrod, XPANCEO aims to replace personal gadgets like phones and headsets with a seamless wearable lens powered by novel optoelectronic materials and on-lens AI. In July 2025 the company raised a $250 million Series A at a $1.35 billion valuation, led by Opportunity Venture (Asia), which had also led its earlier $40 million seed round, making XPANCEO the UAE's 12th unicorn. The capital funds finalization of its first smart lens, expansion of its R&D, product and design teams, and acceleration toward commercialization. XPANCEO represents one of the most ambitious bets in AI-powered XR computing and next-generation wearables.
