WindBorne Systems is a Redwood Shores, California weather-intelligence company that pairs a global fleet of long-duration smart balloons with deep-learning forecasting. Its Atlas constellation, the largest balloon network in the world, collects atmospheric observations from data-sparse regions like oceans and remote areas, then feeds them into WeatherMesh, an AI forecasting model that the company says outperforms leading government and ECMWF systems. WindBorne sells observation data and AI forecasts to customers including NOAA, the U.S. Air Force and Navy, and the Gates Foundation, supporting climate research, disaster preparedness and weather-driven business decisions. By combining proprietary in-situ data with modern ML, WindBorne aims to close the gap between forecast accuracy and a warming, more volatile climate.
