Unique is building an agentic AI workforce for the financial services industry, where accuracy, auditability, and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable. Founded in Zurich in 2021 by Manuel Grenacher, Michelle Heppler, and Andreas Hauri, the company develops a platform that automates the document- and research-heavy processes that consume time in banks, asset managers, and insurers. Rather than offering a generic chatbot, Unique provides specialized agents tuned to financial workflows.

The platform spans middle- and back-office functions such as investment research, compliance checks, and KYC (know-your-customer) processing. It ships with more than 25 specialized use cases, and customers can also deploy tailored agents for tasks specific to their institution. The emphasis is on measurable business impact: improving performance and accuracy while reducing operational risk in environments where errors carry real regulatory and financial consequences.

Unique's customer roster signals its enterprise focus. Institutions including Pictet, Union Bancaire Privee (UBP), LGT, the Swiss financial-infrastructure operator SIX, and Partners Group use the platform. These are demanding, highly regulated organizations, and winning them requires controls around data handling, traceability, and reliability that go well beyond consumer AI tools.

In February 2025, Unique closed a $30 million Series A co-led by CommerzVentures and DN Capital, with participation from existing seed investors including VI Partners and the Pictet Group. The round brought total funding to about $53 million since founding and is being used to accelerate product development and expand into the United States. By concentrating on a single vertical with deep regulatory requirements, Unique aims to differentiate from horizontal AI platforms that lack finance-specific guardrails and use cases.
