What Sentient does
Sentient is an open AGI development platform whose stated mission is to make sure artificial general intelligence is open, community-built, and not controlled by any single corporation. Where labs like OpenAI and Anthropic train closed frontier models behind APIs, Sentient orients the stack around contributors: researchers, dataset curators, and model developers all share in the upside through Sentient's OML (Open, Monetizable, Loyal) protocol, which uses cryptographic fingerprinting and on-chain settlement so that every downstream use of an open model can be traced back and rewarded.
Sentient's flagship outputs include open language models, agent frameworks, and the Sentient Chat product, which surfaces multiple community-built agents into a single search-style interface. Team & funding
Sentient was founded in 2024 by Sandeep Nailwal (Polygon co-founder), Pramod Viswanath (Princeton Forrest G. Hamrick Professor of Engineering), and Himanshu Tyagi (Indian Institute of Science). The team was assembled by Sreeram Kannan (EigenLayer founder). Sentient raised an $85M seed round that closed in May 2024 and was announced July 2 2024, co-led by Founders Fund (Peter Thiel), Pantera Capital, and Framework Ventures, with Robot Ventures, Delphi, Republic, Arrington Capital, Ethereal Ventures, Symbolic Capital, Hack VC, HashKey Capital, Canonical Crypto, and Foresight Ventures participating. The Sentient Foundation is registered in Dubai (Dubai Silicon Oasis) with research operations across the US, India, and the UAE.
