What Rebar Is

Rebar is a New York-based vertical AI startup building an operating system for commercial mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) suppliers. The platform uses proprietary computer vision models to read construction blueprints, identify equipment, and generate bills of materials and quotes 60-70% faster than traditional manual estimating methods.

How It Works

The system ingests blueprint PDFs and automatically detects, categorizes, and counts HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment across complex commercial drawings. It then maps detected components to a supplier's catalog, produces a structured bill of materials, and outputs a quote that an estimator can review and send. Agentic workflows extend the platform across stakeholders in the MEP value chain.

Founders and Team

Rebar was founded in October 2024 by Evan Brown, a former HVAC estimator who experienced the pain of manual takeoffs firsthand. The company is headquartered in New York and has assembled a team focused on construction-domain AI rather than horizontal tooling.

Funding and Traction

In March 2026 Rebar closed a $14M Series A led by Prudence, with Zero Infinity Partners, Founder Collective, Villain Capital, and Optimist Ventures participating. The company doubled ARR in the first six weeks of 2026 and now serves around 40 commercial customers, seven of whom are also investors — an unusually strong signal of product-market fit.

Differentiators

Unlike horizontal construction-tech tools, Rebar is purpose-built for the supplier side of the MEP value chain. Its computer vision models are trained on commercial blueprints rather than residential, and the platform sells into a segment that has historically relied on spreadsheets and PDF markup tools.
