Origin Financial is an all-in-one personal finance platform that consolidates budgeting, investing, financial planning, tax filing, equity compensation tracking, and estate planning into a single subscription product. By layering AI-driven recommendations and a unified data model over banking, brokerage, payroll, and HRIS integrations, Origin gives users a real-time picture of their entire financial life rather than a siloed view per app.

The San Francisco-based company was founded in 2019 by Matt Watson (CEO) and Joao de Paula (President), who originally distributed Origin through employers as a financial wellness benefit before expanding to a direct-to-consumer subscription. The product now spans both routes, and Origin positions itself as the consumer 'money OS' that replaces the patchwork of Mint, Personal Capital, TurboTax, and standalone estate-planning tools.

Origin closed a $56M Series B at a $400M valuation in August 2021, led by 01 Advisors (Dick Costolo and Adam Bain) and General Catalyst, with Founders Fund, Felicis, Lachy Groom, and Abstract Ventures participating. Cumulative funding now exceeds $70M.

Compared with Monarch Money, Copilot, and Empower, Origin is differentiated by its bundled access to human CFP advisors, in-app tax filing, and equity compensation tooling — features more typical of standalone planning software than a budgeting app. Trade-offs include a subscription cost above pure budgeting tools and a US-focused feature set.
