Modus takes an unusual structure to modernize one of the most regulated corners of finance: the audit. Rather than selling software to accounting firms or competing with them, Modus operates as an AI-native audit technology platform and holding company that invests in and partners with established audit-first firms. The thesis is that the most reliable path to AI-driven audit transformation is to combine deep regulatory expertise and existing client relationships with a modern technology stack, preserving a firm's heritage and people while equipping them to perform audits faster and at higher quality.

Audit is labor-intensive, talent-constrained, and increasingly hard to staff as fewer accountants enter the profession. Modus's bet is that AI can absorb large portions of the routine, document-heavy work, evidence gathering, testing, reconciliation, while human auditors retain judgment and sign-off. By embedding its platform inside partner firms, Modus can deploy technology directly into live audit engagements rather than waiting for firms to adopt tools on their own.

The company was founded in 2025 by Arush Jain, Pranav Pillai, and Vinay Kasat, with a team drawn from Palantir, Citadel, Ramp, Thoma Bravo, Bridgewater, and AWS, an unusually technical and finance-heavy bench for the audit space. That pedigree signals an ambition to bring data-platform and quantitative rigor to a profession that has historically run on spreadsheets and manual workpapers.

Modus raised $85 million in combined seed and Series A funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Comma Capital and Garry Tan. The capital supports both technology development and its capital-intensive strategy of investing in and partnering with growing audit firms. Early traction includes an investment in a top-200 accounting platform with more than $30 million in revenue, where Modus's technology is expected to more than double the firm's organic growth rate. For an industry facing a talent crunch and rising demand, Modus offers a model where AI and established firms grow together rather than in competition.
