Definite is a Wilmington, Delaware-based data infrastructure company founded in 2024 by Mike Ritchie, a serial founder whose previous data-activation startup SeekWell was acquired by a major business intelligence platform. Definite's goal is to replace the fragmented modern data stack with a single AI-native platform.
The modern data stack typically requires teams to combine separate tools for ingestion (such as Fivetran), warehousing (such as Snowflake), transformation, and business intelligence, plus the data engineers and budget to operate them. Definite collapses these layers into one product that includes 500+ connectors, an open-source data lake, automated pipelines, and built-in dashboards.
At the center of the platform is an AI assistant called Fi, which interprets natural-language questions, automatically generates SQL, joins data across multiple sources, and returns results with traceable lineage. This lets non-technical users ask business questions in plain English while preserving the auditability that data teams require, effectively acting as a data team that never sleeps.
Definite raised an oversubscribed $10 million seed round in August 2025 led by Costanoa Ventures, with participation from Acrew Capital and strategic angel investors. The capital is being used to expand the company's engineering and go-to-market teams as it pursues the consolidation of the data tooling market.
Definite competes with both the incumbent modern data stack vendors and other AI-native analytics startups, but differentiates by unifying the full pipeline from ingestion to insight in one platform, removing the integration burden that typically requires a dedicated data engineering function.
