Comp AI was founded by Mariano Fuentes, Lewis Carhart, and Claudio Fuentes, entrepreneurs who experienced firsthand how painful, slow, and expensive compliance can be for startups and growing companies. The team set out to modernize the SOC 2 and broader compliance market, which has long been dominated by costly platforms and consultant-heavy processes, by combining the transparency and community of open source with the automation now possible through agentic AI.
The platform helps companies achieve and maintain critical security and privacy frameworks — SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, and GDPR — by automating the most tedious parts of the compliance lifecycle. Comp AI automates evidence collection from connected systems, generates policies, and runs continuous monitoring so organizations stay audit-ready rather than scrambling before each assessment. Its AI Agent Studio lets customers deploy automated agents for tasks like evidence gathering, risk assessments, and vendor onboarding, turning compliance work that once required dedicated staff into largely autonomous workflows.
A defining feature is Comp AI's open-source foundation, which the company uses to build trust, encourage community contribution, and differentiate from closed, expensive incumbents. Since emerging from stealth in April 2025, Comp AI reports strong early traction: its first customers collectively saved thousands of hours of manual compliance work, and more than 3,500 companies joined its pre-launch testing program. The company also participated in Vercel's Spring '25 open-source initiative.
Comp AI raised $2.6 million in pre-seed funding co-led by OSS Capital and Grand Ventures, with participation from notable angels including Sentry founder David Cramer and Ben Tossell of Ben's Bites. The funding accelerates its mission to make compliance faster, cheaper, and more transparent.
By pairing an open-source core with agentic automation, Comp AI is positioning itself as a modern, developer-friendly alternative to legacy GRC platforms for companies that need to get and stay compliant.
