Search for the next generation
Andi was founded by Angela Hoover and Jed White and went through Y Combinator's Winter 2022 batch. The team launched generative AI question-answering in March 2022 — months before ChatGPT — combining large language models with live search results to deliver factually grounded, summarized answers in a chat-style interface designed for how Gen Z actually looks for information.
Different by design
Andi is deliberately ad-free and private: it doesn't track users or sell data, and it presents results as a clean visual feed with direct answers, summaries, and source links rather than pages of ads and SEO spam. Its retrieval-grounded approach aims to reduce hallucinations by anchoring generated answers to real web sources, and features like article summarization and one-click reading views make it feel closer to a research companion than a search box.
Backing and traction
Andi raised about $2.5M from Y Combinator, Goodwater Capital, Gaingels, K20 Fund, and angel investors. Hoover — a community college dropout turned founder — has become a visible voice for independent, privacy-first AI search, and Andi has earned coverage from TechCrunch and international press as one of the earliest true generative search engines.
