Google unveiled Googlebook, a new line of AI-powered laptops designed around its Gemini intelligence platform, set to launch in fall 2026.
The laptops feature "Magic Pointer," which allows users to select any on-screen content and instantly interact with Gemini to ask questions, compare items, or create new content. Users can also build custom desktop widgets through natural language commands with the "Create My Widget" feature.
Googlebook integrates tightly with Android phones through two key features. "Cast My Apps" lets users open phone applications directly on the laptop without installing them locally. "Quick Access" provides seamless file access from connected Android devices, treating phone storage as native laptop storage.
Hardware partnerships across major OEMs
Google partnered with five major hardware manufacturers for the initial launch: Acer, Asus, Dell Technologies, HP, and Lenovo. The company positions the devices as combining "featherweight design" with "heavyweight power."
The laptops include dedicated Google hardware elements, including a physical Google "G" key and fingerprint integration on specific keys. Google emphasizes that "intelligence is the new spec" for the product line.
Both Magic Pointer and Create My Widget require internet connectivity and are limited to users 18 and older. The Android integration features require phones running Android 17 or higher and initial setup configuration.
Google opened pre-launch notifications for interested customers through its marketing site. The announcement represents Google's most direct entry into the laptop hardware market, positioning AI capabilities as the primary differentiator from traditional Chromebooks and Windows machines.
The fall 2026 timeline gives Google approximately 18 months to finalize hardware specifications and software integration across its partner ecosystem.
