London-based robotics startup Humanoid is seeking $200m in funding that would value the company at around $1bn, with Saudi Aramco among the potential investors.
The deal would mark one of Europe's largest robotics funding rounds this year. Sources familiar with the matter said Aramco, the Saudi state oil giant, is in advanced discussions to participate in the round.
Humanoid was founded in 2023 and is developing two distinct robot products: one for industrial applications and another designed for home use. The company previously indicated it planned to begin commercial production of both robots by early 2025.
Dual-product strategy targets broad market
The startup, led by founders from Cambridge and Oxford, has attracted attention from major technology investors. Previous backers include European venture firms and strategic investors from the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
Humanoid's industrial robot is designed for factory automation and logistics applications. The consumer version targets household tasks and personal assistance, competing in a market that includes established players and well-funded startups.
The company has been testing prototypes with manufacturing partners across Europe. Early trials focused on assembly line integration and quality control applications in automotive production facilities.
Aramco's potential investment reflects the oil giant's broader push into technology and automation. The company has allocated significant capital to robotics and AI initiatives as part of its diversification strategy beyond traditional energy operations.
European robotics funding surge
The Humanoid deal comes amid increased investor interest in European robotics companies. Industry data shows robotics startups across the continent raised more in the first half of 2026 than in the previous two years combined.
German robotics company Neura recently completed a €1.2bn funding round, setting a new European record for the sector. That deal included participation from major industrial conglomerates and sovereign wealth funds.
Humanoid declined to comment on the funding discussions. Aramco representatives did not respond to requests for comment by publication time.
The company expects to announce the funding round's completion within the next month, according to sources close to the negotiations.
