Anthropic launched new legal automation features for Claude on Tuesday, expanding its law-focused platform with plug-ins designed for document review, case law research, and deposition preparation.

The features build on Claude for Legal, which launched in February, adding specialized tools for commercial, privacy, corporate, employment, and AI governance law.

The move comes as competition heats up in AI legal services. Harvey raised $200 million in March at an $11 billion valuation, while rival Legora secured $600 million in Series D funding last month at a $5.6 billion valuation.

Legora launched a high-profile advertising campaign featuring actor Jude Law to promote its automated legal workflow platform.

What Anthropic is offering

The new Claude tools target specific clerical functions including document search and review, case law resources, and document drafting across multiple legal specialties.

Anthropic also launched model context protocol connectors that integrate Claude with existing law firm software. These include document management platforms like DocuSign, file search systems like Box, and legal research databases including Thomson Reuters' Westlaw.

The connectors allow Claude to interact directly with third-party legal applications that firms already use in their daily operations.

All paying Claude customers can access the new plug-ins and connectors, the company said.

"The legal sector is facing mounting pressure to adopt AI, and the firms and in-house teams that move are pulling ahead fast," an Anthropic spokesperson said. "Claude is making a deeper push into knowledge work, with the legal sector emerging as one of its most significant verticals."

The legal AI market has attracted significant venture investment as firms seek to automate traditionally labor-intensive processes like document review and case research that have historically required large teams of lawyers and paralegals.

Anthropic plans to expand the legal feature set further throughout 2026, targeting additional practice areas and workflow integrations.
