Windsurf Review 2026: The Cursor Alternative That Took the Agent Crown

Windsurf is Codeium's VS Code fork, now owned and reborn after the OpenAI/Google saga. Cascade, its flow-aware agent, frequently beats Cursor on long agentic tasks, and the free tier is the most generous of any premium AI editor. What it does

Windsurf is a desktop IDE (Mac, Windows, Linux) built on VS Code with Codeium's AI stack underneath. The headline feature is Cascade — an agent that observes what you are doing (the "Flow") and proactively suggests edits across files. Beyond that you get:
