Jared Kaplan

Jared Kaplan is co-founder and Chief Science Officer of Anthropic and an associate professor of physics and astronomy at Johns Hopkins University. He previously held postdoctoral positions at SLAC and Stanford and joined OpenAI in 2019, where he co-authored "Scaling Laws for Neural Language Models" (2020), which showed that model performance follows predictable power-law improvements with size, data, and compute. At Anthropic he co-developed Constitutional AI and, since October 2024, has served as the firm's Responsible Scaling Officer, overseeing safety assessments before each model release.
