Google launched Create My Widget, a new Android feature that lets users build custom home screen widgets through natural language descriptions.

The feature debuts this summer on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones. Users describe their desired functionality in plain English to generate personalized dashboards.

Examples include requesting "three high-protein meal prep recipes every week" to create a custom nutrition widget, or asking for a weather display showing only wind speed and rain data for cyclists.

How Gemini powers widget creation

The system connects with Google services including Gmail and Calendar to build unified dashboards. For a Berlin family reunion, it could compile flight details, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, and add a countdown timer in one widget.

Gemini also pulls web information to populate widgets with real-time data beyond Google's ecosystem.

"This is like you asking your personal assistant a question, and having them just bring you the answer on repeat," said Ben Greenwood, director of product management for Android Core Experiences.

The feature represents Google's broader push to embed generative AI throughout Android's interface. Tech companies are racing to make customization tools accessible to non-technical users through conversational interfaces.

Google announced Create My Widget alongside Gemini Intelligence, which adds advanced autofill capabilities and AI-powered voice dictation to Gboard.

The widget builder targets two primary data sources: Gemini's knowledge of world events and users' personal information stored in Google services.

Google has not specified which Android versions will support the feature beyond the initial Samsung Galaxy and Pixel rollout.
